5 Most Expensive Marinas to Dock In
Posted by Ashley Wright
Superyacht owners are not just financially responsible for the vessel – they also have to take the cost of docking into account. While most ports and marinas are located in stunning, bucket-list destinations, there are some in particular that are elite in the superyacht world.
The sea may look the same, but each location is very unique. The docking location can set the tone for the rest of the trip, so it’s important to pick a luxurious, beautiful destination to dock at, so the guests leave even happier than they were when they came. Check out these five most expensive marinas to dock in!
1. Ibiza Magna, Ibiza (€4,000/day)
Located in the Balearic Islands, this breathtaking dock location is more expensive than it looks. Part of the allure might be its exclusivity, considering it has only a limited number of berths. Most known for the nightlife and thrilling environment, Ibiza has berths for yachts up to 60m.
September is reportedly the most popular time to visit, according to Yachting Pages Media Group. The marina is even conveniently located super close to the world-renowned nightclub, Pacha!
2. Marina Grande, Capri (€2,750/day)
The island of Capri, one of the world’s most affluent marinas, offers exquisite views and is sure to be memorable. Due to its popularity, though, berthing does have to be organized several months in advance.
You’ll find that this quaint, colorful island is filled with luxury hotels, restaurants, and many more enjoyable wonders. Capri is unsurprisingly home to some of the world’s most extravagant yachts!
3. Port de Saint Tropez, France (€2,105/day
If you’re a fan of luxury reality television, you might know a celebrity or two who has traveled to this spectacular destination. Here you’ll find everyone from models to millionaires. Famous for its history, Saint Tropez is essentially a playground.
Peak months to travel there are typically June and July, but let’s be honest, it’s beautiful year-round. This port even offers over 700 berths!
4. Port Tarraco, Spain (€1947/day)
Located in the Western Mediterranean, this marina offers more serenity and calmness. Although it can be pricey to dock here, it is definitely worth it, considering the high quality of service and distinctive features it offers.
Here there are endless support services for superyacht owners, their crew, and guests. If you’re like me and grew up obsessed with The Cheetah Girls, you might want to check out Barcelona, located only 48 miles away!
5. Port Hercule, Monaco (€1,095/day)
Highly popular in the summer, the gorgeous Port Hercule is very accommodating. The lavishness, affluence, and extravagance are just a few reasons that visitors are drawn here.
Beautiful views are available at practically any time of day, and this part of Monaco also contains a variety of special attractions. Port Hercule is not the most expensive place to dock, but it can get astronomical during peak months.
During peak months, berthing rates at the South of France can get as high as €130,000! While it does seem pricey, the major events occurring during this time are definitely worth it! The two main events that draw in massive crowds are the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix in May. The Cannes Film Festival previews all film genres and is attended by many celebrities. It’s an extraordinary festival that is exclusively reserved for film professionals and the media.

Monaco Grand Prix is an annual motor race held on the last weekend of May and is unlike any race you’ve ever seen before. With unbelievably tight corners and elevation changes, you just have to attend if you’re in Monaco during this time.

Although the marinas themselves will never admit it, the tipping system is BIG for these events. If you are tipping big bucks, then chances are, you’ve guaranteed yourself a berth for next year. No tip? You may find yourself at anchor for the next big event!
You don’t have to know much about racecars to enjoy yourself here. To say these events are spectacular would be an understatement. This is unquestionably a destination for your bucket list!
