5 Hidden Countries to Take Your Yacht

Posted by Ashley Wright

From touches of extravagance to abundant ways of relaxation, superyachts are among the most luxurious methods of transportation. Sailing across the sparkling seas and taking in the stunning views never get old. Given the countless options available, planning your next charter location can be a difficult decision.

Popular travel destinations such as Thailand, Italy, and Turks and Caicos are beautiful, but it’s always nice to add an element of mystery or surprise. At some point during your travels, you might desire something different. You might consider The Bahamas to be so last year or long for a change of scenery. While there’s nothing wrong with frequenting popular countries, it couldn’t hurt to try something new. If you’ve reached that point or are just curious about lowkey yacht destinations, take a look at our list of five hidden countries to take your yacht!

1. Mljet, Croatia

This gorgeous island located in a remote area 23 miles from Dubrovnik is sure to astonish you with its myriad of parks, outdoor activities, views, and more. Mljet, Croatia is comprised of panoramic views and a variety of unforgettable archeological sites. Bordering on two saltwater lakes, Mljet National Park takes up one-third of the island with its two inland lakes and miles of trails! The scenery is breathtaking, and you can even find endangered species around the park.

Not only are there very limited residents, but there are also no large towns. Most of the island is heavily forested, but there are also attractions for scuba divers. If you’re not one for scuba diving, the clear, calming waters make for wonderful kayaking. Another treasure of this beautiful island is the Odysseus cave, a large cavern accessible via boat or path.

2. Kastellorizo, Greece

Roughly off the coast of Turkey, Kastellorizo is mountainous and mainly known for its aesthetic beauty. Saint George Beach, Paleokastro, and Archaelogical Museam Kastellorizo are among some of the gorgeous attractions this island offers. Another astounding choice for travelers is Blue Grotto, a cave that lies on the southeast coast of the island. Blue Grotto is unique in that the refracting light gives it an alluring blue color.

The food isn’t bad, either. They offer traditional food, like eggs and bacon, but also embrace their culture with foods such as lamb and goat. This allows you to step out of your comfort zone yet feel at home. The photos do not do it any justice, so we highly encourage you see its exceptional beauty in-person!

3. Canouan Island, The Grenadines

About twenty-five miles south of St. Vincent with a population of 1,700, Canouan Island contains more picturesque beaches, seascapes, and has an aura of relaxation. Golfing, hiking, and exploring the beaches are no ordinary experience here – each attraction has a distinctive and exquisite scenery. They also have many marinas to dock your yacht.

While the island has numerous sources of beauty, its most popular sites are their beaches, bays, and coral reefs. In fact, The Travel Channel voted Canouan’s Godahl Bay Beach #5 in ‘The World’s 21 Sexiest Beaches’ in 2008! The pretty white sand beach is great for swimming and is surrounded by land topography.

When visiting, you’ll also get the opportunity to dive and snorkel. The noteworthy boulder configurations invite a variety of marine life. It’s not uncommon to spot sea turtles, which lay their eggs on the beaches, at certain times of the year!

4. Sveti Stefan, Montenegro

Sveti Stefan, Montenegro

A small islet and 5-star hotel resort on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro, this resort is known for its pink, sandy beaches, high-profile visitors, and strikingly attractive churches. Here you’ll find that the sailing conditions are great, and the views are absolutely stunning.

Since the 60s, Sveti Stefan, Montenegro has been described as a playground. This could be because of the beautiful beaches, the unique hiking spots, or distinctive bars and restaurants. One of the most popular spots that tourists like to visit is Praskvica Monastery, one of Sveti Stefan’s four churches named after the neighboring peach-scented water. Walking along the country’s beaches is also an interesting experience. The beaches each hold their own elements of beauty, and you’ll even find the notable Ballet Dancer Statue right at the entrance to Mogren Beach.

5. Golden Bay, Malta

If you take one look at Golden Bay’s spectacular beach, you’ll quickly see where its name comes from. Travelers come for the lovely bay and stay for the luxurious views and wide variety of entertainment activities. Although it can get busy during summer months, you can make the most out of staying at this beautiful island by barbequing on the beach, taking a boat tour, or simply grabbing a meal at one of the many tasty restaurants.

Visitors say that this is a great spot to witness sunsets, especially in the summer. The beach is also perfect for swimming, but it’s important to pay attention to the flags, as the color indicates the level of swimming safety based on weather conditions. It’s a very family-friendly vacation destination and is sure to be memorable!
